Another good children’s historical fiction that adults can enjoy. This is from the perspective of the children of the scientists living at Los Alamos while the atomic bomb is being created. This is a good girl power book with little Dewy being such a smart cookie and always tinkering with her inventions. I was drawn into her world right from the start. A very endearing character and a good story.

Captures what it's like to be a kid with a difference. Has themes that will appeal to adventurous as well as timid kids. Ideal audience: probably 4th or 5th graders. Beautifully written.

Vivid, funny, smart and cool - this is one of the best pieces of historical fiction I've read. Set at Los Alamos, there is lots of great science, engineering and history as well as the battles of growing up and being human.

You will never be able to put this book full of love, hate, friendship, controversy, acceptance and the true meaning of family down. Be sure to also read it's sequel, White sands, red menace.
