I don't know if it was because I was about 13 when I read this book or what, but this has to be the most DREADFULLY BORING BOOK IN THE HISTORY OF ALL LITERATURE! How this book was a Golden Sower nominee is beyond me. My dad tried to read it and 3 days later he came to me and said he only got about 50 pages in and just had to stop reading otherwise he would die of boredom.

A very interesting read, indeed. I really liked the setup of this book and found it very entertaining, as well as thought-provoking in the dystopic world that it painted. I mean, orange drink! Where are we when children prefer that sugary gunk to the real, delicious, pulpy stuff? :}

'Surviving Antarctica' wasn't as intense as i'd hoped, because I didn't feel I knew the characters as closely as I'd have liked, but it was very good. I enjoyed the way the book was narrated- in third person, but so you could still hear the thoughts of each of the five kids, as well as the DOE guy. Even if I didn't feel like I'd bonded with them, at least I understood what the characters felt. I loved the ideas the author came up with creating this futuristic world- especially because it's not all that unrealistic. I'd definitely recommend this read.
