"Sara Paretsky follows her instant New York Times bestseller Fallout--her most widely read novel in years--with an extraordinary adventure that pits her acclaimed detective, V.I. Warshawski, against some of today's most powerful figures. Legendary sleuth V.I. Warshawski returns to the Windy City to save an old friend's nephew from a murder arrest. The case involves a stolen artifact that could implicate a shadowy network of international criminals. As V.I. investigates, the detective soon finds herself tangling with the Russian mob, ISIS backers, and a shady network of stock scams and stolen art that stretches from Chicago to the East Indies and the Middle East. In Shell Game, nothing and no one are what they seem, except for the detective herself, who loses sleep, money, and blood, but remains indomitable in her quest for justice"--

How can a reader not like private investigator V. I. Warshawski and her humor? What makes this one great is her case pits her against her greedy ex-husband and the immigration service as she discovers the secrets lurking in a Middle Eastern graduate school and museum.

First and last time that I will read this author's work. Obvious and unnecessary liberal bias inserted into plot in very odd places.

Sara Paretsky writes some really awesome, complicated stories. SHELL GAME is right up there with the most complicated and best. An incredible mix of murder, massive family dysfunction, abused women, ICE and its current roles in border security, federal-state-county-city jurisdictional disputes, looting of Middle East artifacts, the underground market for looted artifacts, Russians, payday loan companies, engineering students, billionaires with runaway egos, etc. I was so turned around throughout this story to figure what happened, to whom, and why that I needed the ending to finally see it. What a great writer and what an awesome story. Like so many crime/adventure/thriller writers these days, Peratsky is getting very skilled at weaving current events into the middle of her stories, it leaves you breathless. And to top it off, you have the irrepressible V. I. Warshawski whose sarcastic and humorous put downs of jerks not only make you laugh, but make you want to read her next adventure. Soon, please Sara.
