A book of surprises, surprisingly separated into "chapters", which is rare for picture books. Each section looks at a different kind of surprise for either Alligator or Amanda, and though unsurprisingly they are simple, they have a fun element to them that is commonly shared among friends. Both characters wish to make the other happy, and being in each others company is what they like best. Amanda reads her books at home, all of which are on some odd topics, while Alligator thinks of new ways to play. But he still gets bored, so Amanda brings a new stuffed animal home, and like any other stuffed animal, when his child is gone, he has nothing else to do. In this, the two bond, and friendship blooms.
Mo Williams always does very expressive styles, and even with this one, his characters continue to emote all kinds of things; the tail twitches are a nice touch.
